Singing Career
After singing on Coronation Street as Lucille, who won a talent contest for her rendition of My Guy, Jenny came to the attention of music publisher Roy Pitt who contacted her and asked if she could tape-record some songs for him to hear. Roy was impressed with her singing talent and so was the legendary British record producer Joe Meek. Jenny was signed to Columbia Records, and she and Joe recorded several songs together. What was to become her one and only disc appeared in record stores in June 1963. The A side Hobbies was an infectious uptempo pop song whereas the B side Big Boys was slower and melancholy. Both of these tracks featured Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, and Hobbies received a lot of radio play. To promote the single, Jenny made an appearance on ITV's music show Thank Your Lucky Stars, on the same bill as Petula Clark, and Granada TV's Scene at 6:30.
In the music film Live It Up!, Jenny performed the song Please Let It Happen To Me, a yearning ballad written and produced by Joe Meek. Although it was never officially released as a single, it was finally made available in 1996 on the CD compilation album Let's Go (Joe Meek Girls) (RPM Records) along with Hobbies and Big Boys, as well as two previously unheard songs, Please Don't Say Goodbye and When My Boy Comes Matching Home.
